Provisioning, Meal Planning, and Food Storage

10 Modules

Introduction

A quick overview of what we'll cover in the course, plus you get to meet me and hear why my advice is sound.

Module 2: Meal Plan Central

Meal planning helps with list-making. But how do you figure out what you'll eat each day when cruising? Simple: you shift the way you plan your meals. In this module, we share ideas about flexible meal planning based around

  • weather
  • inspiration
  • what's about to go bad

Plus a special module to help you plan food for a charter.

Module 3: Storage

Sometimes buying the food and the storage question is a little bit of a chicken and egg situation. How do you know how much food to buy if you don't know where it will all go (or if it will all fit)? How do you know where you'll store it until you have bought it? These are valid concerns - and they're also not.

You'll need to figure out WHERE you'll store stuff. On a boat, this comes with some complications.

Learn about

  • storage on a boat
  • specific storage tips for knives and spices
  • garbage

Module 4: Shopping Where and When for FIRST TIME Provisioning

Provisioning for the first time feels massive. You've got a lot in your corner, though.

This module helps you identify (and narrow down) your multiple options for provisioning, and helps you focus on what exactly you might like to spend your time sourcing.

Module 5: Shopping When "Away From Home"

Once you leave your home port, the provisioning challenges shift. Are you filling the corners up, or needing a complete restock? What makes it clear it's time to hit the store again? How do you know if it's a good place to shop?

All these questions (and more!) are answered in this module!

Module 6: Garbage

A whole module on GARBAGE??

Garbage is a big deal on a boat. Such a big deal there are international treaties about it, a plaque you're required (as an American) to display, and endless tricks for dealing with it. If your (American) boat is over 40 feet long, you're required to have a written waste management plan. Yes, garbage is a big deal.

Module 7: Cooking Aboard: the hardware and safety series (not a cooking lesson)

Cooking always involves tools and safety. Cooking on a boat takes a little more thought.

From stove options to pot holders, there's a lot to consider.

Module 8: Truisms, Myths, and Realities of Galley Life

Always. Never. Must.

How about swapping any of these for "it depends" as a starting point?

Yes, even when talking about glass, or sinks, or space aboard.

Module 9: Unexpected Joys

Cruising life isn't always beaches and umbrella drinks.

But sometimes it comes awfully close.
